What is Ads.txt and How to ADD/CREATE Ads.txt file?

Many of you may have heard of ads.txt. You might be thinking that what is it? Why it is helpful or what is its use?

Ads.txt is an IAB Tech Lab initiative that helps ensure that your digital ad inventory is only sold through sellers (such as AdSense) who you’ve identified as authorized.

It is an auto ads type thing in which your third-party advertiser (like AdSense) provides auto ads according to the device by which the user is surfing your website. It only happens when you authorize from google AdSense.

It stops ad fraud that someone sells your ads on their website without you authorizing it. It allows your seller to put ads on your website. Google AdSense also recommends you to use ads.txt. It can help buyers identify counterfeit inventory and help you receive more advertiser spend that might have otherwise gone toward that counterfeit inventory.

Benefit: It protects your domain from spoofing and secure your ad revenue from advertisers.

Ads.txt is a Text file which you put on your website to authorize digital ad sellers. These sellers then provide you ads by verifying you through this file. It contains the advertisers names and their partners. Google Ad manager uses ads.txt in similar way to verify your website and through which other ad networks will provide you ads. Third party companies like AdSense will also provide you an ads.txt file.

Third party ad networks will provide you ads.txt file. AdSense also provides ads.txt file when your website gets approved by Google. There is an option to download the ads.txt file. Once downloaded you can put it in your root directory.

How to manually create Ads.txt File for AdSense?

  • Go to AdSense and copy your publisher code.
  • Publisher code can be found on the URL bar.
  • Paste and replace the existing code from the following code.
google.com, pub-0000000000000000, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
  • Remove “pub-0000000000000000” and paste your pub-id that you copied.
  • Go to you computers desktop and create a new Text document file and paste it there and name the file as “ads.txt”.

How to Add an Ads.txt File to Your WordPress Website?

WordPress

  • Go to plugins page and search for a plugin called “file manager”.
  • Install and Activate it.
  • Go to the plugins and on task bar click on “upload file” option.
  • Uploaded the downloaded ads.txt file.

Blogger

  • Open you blog on blogger.
  • Go to settings and go to monetization section at the bottom.
  • Turn on “custom ads.txt” option.
  • Paste you ads.txt file and click save.
